Some of you may be thinking right now about your salary
hikes. But you may not be sure how to ask your salary hike, what will be the
time to ask about the salary hike etc. Here I would like to give some insights
about asking for salary hike.
After a great
achievement
You can ask for salary hike after a great accomplishment of
a big target or any other achievements. Your boss and top management will be
convinced in you that situation. Even they was not planning to give salary
hike, your performance will help them to change their decision.
Your position in the
company is cannot be replaced with some one
Before asking for a salary pay you should really think that “is
my role in the company creates any value to the company’? and ‘Is my position cannot be replaced with
some another person?’ if both answers gives positive reply you can ask for your
salary hike. The management also will be most likely to give a salary hike if
they also felt the same opinion about your role in the company.
You have good
relationship with superior and colleagues
If you built a good relation with the colleagues, boss and
other teams related to the salary hike process, they will be consider your
salary hike request. They cannot deny your request as you have good
relationship with them.
Your CTC is very low
compared to your out put
Compare your CTC before ask for a salary hike. This will
also give you a confidence that your’e eligible for the salary hike. For example
if you are working as a sales executive and you are increased the sales and the
effect on the net profit is 100,000$ increase, you can ask for a decent salary
hike.
The management is on
a stress or pressure etc
Don’t ask for salary incease when your reporting officer or
top management is stressed with something else.
They might be finding way to express their discomfort and they will
express it towards you when you ask for the hike. So time to ask for the hike is also very much
important.
Salary level of your
colleagues and industry salary standards
Compare your salary with industry standards and your colleague’s
salary level before you request for a salary hike. If t your salary level is
too low than industrial standard you can ask for hike.
Company’s policy on
salary hike and performance appraisal
Company’s policies and performance evaluation methods and
standards need to be identified.
Focus on selling, not
begging
When you present yourself in front of the management or immediate
superior for salary request, you have to be very confident that you are
eligible for salary hike and you should have reasons for getting you much pay. Then
you can sell that reason and get a higher salary in the organization
Think about future of
your career in the organization
After all salary is not everything if you are young and need
to improve yourself to reach in your desired position, you have to compromise
on the salary sometimes. So, if your career is benefitted from your present job
and experience salary limitations doesn’t matter.
